Microwave power: how many kilowatts a microwave oven consumes. Microwave power: how much does a microwave oven consume in watts
General information about microwave power
Microwave magnetron
A microwave oven is an indispensable thing in the kitchen, in which it is easy to heat up a ready-made dish or cook a new one. The key parameter of microwave ovens is power, and here are some facts about it:
- power source – magnetron. This element is installed in all ovens. Looks like a light bulb. The switched on magnetron generates microwave waves, which, acting on the product, lead to its heating;
- powerful microwaves have more options. They prepare more complex dishes, and heating food does not take much time;
- microwave power consumption is measured in watts (W) and kilowatts (kW);
- its power depends on the size of the equipment. The larger the working chamber of the microwave oven, the more needs it has. Heating a larger area requires increased power, along with which energy consumption increases.
The performance of a microwave oven is the factor that is taken into account first when buying. This parameter ranges from 600 to 1500 watts.
Control block
Microwave control unit
The control panel is:
- mechanical;
- electronic.
The control unit maintains the set power and turns off the device after a set time.
Inside the electronic unit there is a microcomputer with rich potential, therefore, in the course of the manufacture of furnaces, it finds other uses. For example, a clock or pieces of melody are embedded that signal the end of the work.
The control unit is a circuit with which a person directly interacts. The working bodies are: buttons, mechanical switches, regulators, with the help of which the operating parameters are set. Through them, the power is set, the mode, the program is selected.
The circuit itself is arranged in different ways. The simplest is a rotary knob, one of which is a timer. There is also a hybrid system – with buttons. It, in comparison with the “mechanics”, is more functional.
An increasingly common control unit in the form of a touch panel. The principle of operation is similar to mechanical buttons, only more reliable. Advanced circuits support “programming” – adjustable power and time of radiation output.
Microwave radiation generating unit
This is the “heart” of the microwave oven. The element looks like a vacuum tube that could be found in old CRT TVs.
Its task is to generate an intense high frequency electromagnetic wave. When electrons pass through a magnetic field, a wave is formed, the length of which is different.
The generation unit does not include a single microwave source. In order for the waves to enter the working area of the furnace, waveguides are provided in it. They are located behind a mica plate, which “hides” behind the side wall.
Primary and secondary protection systems
Control sensors ensure that key electronic and hardware parts are working properly, and not in emergency mode. Their function is to ensure trouble-free operation of the microwave oven and prevent dangerous failures.
Control sensor
To protect a person from exposure to microwaves, microwave ovens have a locking mechanism consisting of several switches:
- Primary Switch;
- Secondary Switch;
- Door Switch;
- Monitor Switch.
The unit generating microwave radiation will start working only when the contacts of the primary and secondary switches are closed (the door is closed).
The task of the door switch is to block the operation of the power control relay. It is installed mainly in technology with an electronic control unit.
Measuring utility
The main characteristics of a microwave oven among ordinary consumers are considered to be performance and volume. The dimensions of the appliance are determined in liters (13–42 liters), and the power in watts (W). The numerical values of the power parameters increase in proportion to the volume / displacement of the apparatus. For a family of 4, a microwave oven with a volume of 20-28 liters and a power of 1.5 kW is sufficient. But how to check the necessary parameters of the kitchen appliance for the needs of the average family?
The breadth of its functionality and its intended use in the kitchen depend on the design of the device:
- 500–800 W – for defrosting, heating and cooking simple meals;
- from 900 W – cooking complex dishes using additional functions.
Low network parameters with several household appliances turned on at the same time can reduce the power of the microwave oven.
Make sure that your home / office power supply is reliable so that the load from operating the microwave at full power does not result in a fire hazard.
Microwave power
There is a huge selection of stoves on the market, which can be divided into groups.
The power of each oven is different. Accordingly, the electricity consumed is also, therefore, when choosing a stove, a choice should be made for what this stove will be needed on the farm. The most popular option is the solo oven. They can be used not only for defrosting and heating food, but also for preparing desserts and other dishes.
A microwave with a grill consumes more energy, they are more powerful: the power in such ovens is mainly from 1.2 to 2 kW / hour.
Such ovens are for lovers of toasted meat. The unit has a tube inside that heats up. There are models with a movable grill. It is worth noting that in no case should you turn on an empty microwave oven or put objects in the oven that will not absorb microwave waves – this may damage the oven.
Microwave solo
This is the most common and affordable option, small products with low productivity. Suitable for heating ready meals, preparing desserts, hot sandwiches and defrosting food. Due to its small size, it does not consume a lot of electricity.
With grill
In this machine you can cook dishes according to different recipes. The power value of the device, and accordingly the energy consumption, increases significantly.
Convection
The oven with built-in convection grill functions is the main assistant of the hostess in the kitchen. This model of the appliance is suitable for cooking a wide variety of dishes and different pastries. Its efficiency is ensured by its high power.
With steam generator
A microwave oven with the addition of a steam generator is the most expensive of all. It includes four devices at the same time:
- microwave element;
- grill system;
- oven;
- steamer.
An inverter mechanism is built into the device, thanks to which the power is regulated. Consequently, energy costs can be saved here.
When choosing a stove, you need to consider for what purpose you need it. If you just reheat ready-made food, you do not need to spend money on an expensive model with many options. A solo microwave is perfect for your occasion.
Reference! Since the magnetron begins to function when the microwave oven is turned on, electricity is consumed. Experts advise to disconnect the equipment from the mains during its downtime.
Whether to give up the “crisp”
It is enough to look at the number of kilowatts consumed by the grill and convection to understand how expensive it is to operate the device in three modes at the same time.
There is an opinion that most of all electricity is spent by electric kettles, microwave ovens and heaters. But this is not at all the case. The nature of this opinion lies, most likely, in the similarity of the principle of energy conversion – the operation of all these devices is accompanied by heating.
The microwave oven cannot do serious damage to the budget in any way, unless, of course, you bake chickens every day.
On a note! The most important consumer in the house is a refrigerator, so it really “eats up” the lion's share of kilowatts, especially if its energy consumption class is below A.
Temperature or power
The principle of operation of any microwave oven is based on the power of the unit. As a rule, housewives purchase devices with a capacity of 800-100 watts. This means that when you select the operating mode at maximum power, the food will be heated to a boiling point of 1000C in one minute. Accordingly, in 30 seconds of operation, the product will heat up to 500C. But in fact, not everything is so simple.
The maximum temperature of the microwave, or rather the products placed inside the oven, cannot be higher than 100-1100C. This is the generally accepted boiling point. After all, the functioning of the microwave is based on electromagnetic radiation. UHF waves penetrate deep into any product placed in the oven. Due to the effect of waves on water molecules, which are present in any product, food is heated.
Microwave cooking
Safety engineering
I strongly advise against repeating the experiments I have described because special precautions are required when working with microwave ovens. All experiments were performed exclusively for scientific and educational purposes. The harm of microwave radiation to humans is not yet fully understood. When I got close to the working magnetron, I felt the heat, like from an oven. Only from the inside and, as it were, pointwise, in waves. I didn't feel any more harm. Still, I strongly advise against aiming a working magnetron at people. Due to thermal effects, the protein in the eyes can coagulate and form a blood clot. There is also debate that such radiation can cause cancer and chronic diseases.
Heating element
The peculiarity of ultra-high electromagnetic waves is such that it allows you to cook only dishes with boiled products. This type of cuisine is considered to be very healthy, but many people do not really appreciate its taste. Especially for such gourmets, a grill is built into the microwave oven.
It is an ordinary electric heater, the capacity of which can be up to half of the total capacity of the furnace. The consumption of a grill made of heating elements is especially high. Quartz heaters are much better in this regard: with equal performance, they are more economical.
Maximum total power consumption
It is a quantity that affects the home electrical network. Before purchasing this or that electrical device, it is necessary to take into account the possibility of wiring. Many models of microwave ovens in production are equipped not only with a microwave, but also with a grill and a convector.
Energy is also consumed by fans, of which there may be more than one in the device. They are necessary for convection, cooling of the emitter.
Another consumer of electricity is a microprocessor computer, which is needed in order to implement auto programs and various modes.
Instrument facts
The microwave device heats the entire volume, not just the surface, which distinguishes it from other kitchen appliances. Thanks to this principle, products are quickly defrosted. Radiation makes the water molecules, which are found in meat products and fish, move.
The main component of this device is a microwave emitter.
Basic levels of oven functioning
- Low. The energy consumption is minimal. Here food is reheated and food (meat, fish) is defrosted.
- Below the average. Used to thaw food.
- Middle. Accelerated heating of dishes, you can also cook stewed or stewed dishes here.
- Above average. At an elevated temperature regime, liquids are boiled sauces, drinks, and meat dishes are also baked.
- Maximum. Few people use this level. It differs in the speed of cooking. When choosing it, the magnetron functions quite intensively, respectively, and the power increases significantly, and with it the consumed electricity.
Most appliances have power levels programmed. When using it, it is enough to choose the one that you need.
In some microwave ovens, the desired mode is set manually. Models with memorization of the parameters of functions used by the user during the operation of the appliance have become more often displayed on the modern market of household appliances, which simplifies the work of the hostess in the kitchen.
Reference! The efficiency of a microwave oven, when several electrical appliances are operating simultaneously from the network, significantly decreases.
Unusual experiences
I want to note right away that microwave power has a much stronger effect on technology than on people and animals. Even 10 meters from the magnetron, the equipment was malfunctioning: the TV and the music center made a terrible growling sound, the mobile phone first lost the network, and then completely froze. The magnetron had a particularly strong effect on wi-fi. When I brought the magnetron close to the music center, sparks fell from it and to my surprise it exploded! Upon a detailed examination, he discovered that a network capacitor had exploded in it. In this video, I show the antenna assembly process and the effect of the magnetron on the technique:
Using non-ionizing radiation from a magnetron, plasma can be obtained. In an incandescent lamp, brought to the magnetron, a brightly glowing yellow ball is lit, sometimes with a purple tint, like ball lightning. If the magnetron is not turned off in time, the light bulb will explode. Even an ordinary paper clip, under the influence of the microwave, turns into an antenna. An EMF of sufficient force is induced on it to ignite the arc and melt this paper clip. Fluorescent lamps and “housekeeping” lamps are lit at a sufficiently large distance and glow directly in the hands without wires! And in a neon lamp, electromagnetic waves become visible:
I want to reassure you, my readers, none of my neighbors suffered from my experiments. All the nearest neighbors fled from the city as soon as hostilities began in Luhansk.
Types of microwaves
You can adjust the microwave power on the control panel. Control systems are of the following types.
Mechanical
The easiest way to adjust energy consumption. It is present mainly in solo models. The panel has 2 round rotary switches that allow you to select the operating mode, which directly affects the number of kilowatts consumed per month and the timer operation time.
The controls are a bit easier to use. Presented as a set of buttons located on the instrument panel. They are equipped with models with the ability to work in several modes.
Sensory
The device is also equipped with buttons, but not mechanical, but touch buttons, which set the operating mode. Touch control allows you to program the microwave, which eliminates the introduction of the necessary parameters before each use of the device. Touch control also has a disadvantage due to excessive sensitivity to strong mechanical influences and sudden changes in the power supply.
What are the impact of kilowatts
Knowing the values of the power consumption, a competent consumer will be able to draw a conclusion about the capabilities of the microwave oven, the power consumption (and therefore about the upcoming operating costs) and the load that the device creates on the power grid. The more kilowatts the oven consumes, the more food can be cooked at one time. In addition, the more powerful the device, the higher:
- cooking speed;
- power consumption;
- the cost of the microwave.
Economical Solo Oven “Samsung” ME83KRW-3
This is a small solo stove that features a built-in deodorizer and a steaming function. It is economical and at the same time quite roomy. There is auto-cooking and defrosting. There is a control panel lock.
Samsung ME83KRW-3 specifications:
| Power, W | 800 |
| Grill, W | not |
| Convection, Tue. | not |
| Volume, l | 23 |
| Dimensions, mm | 800х490х370 |
| Weight, kg | 12 |
| Pallet diameter, mm | 288 |
| Power levels, pcs. | 6 |
Samsung engineers are constantly striving for harmony of compactness and spaciousness. The presented model is just that – it is small in size, but it has a volumetric camera.
Bioceramics are used for the inner coating of the chamber. It is environmentally friendly, easily cleaned from fatty contamination. It is an order of magnitude more resistant to mechanical stress than stainless steel. It is almost impossible to scratch the bioceramic coating.
The device uses a triple distribution of microwaves, thanks to this system, the products are heated evenly.
This model will not hurt the most modest budget. First, its approximate cost is in the range of 5,000-6,000 rubles. Secondly, its consumption is limited to 800 W and there is no grill or convection in it – functions that are extremely expensive in terms of electricity.
Power Impact
If the volume of the microwave is large, then the device has a high power, therefore, more electrical energy is consumed. If the consumer wants to cook large pieces of meat, then a device of enormous power is needed.
Cooking fish and meat products
Power influences the following:
- The volume of the dish being prepared. In devices that have tremendous power, more food can be cooked when compared with models that consume a small amount of kilowatts.
- Time interval. If household appliances consume more energy, they cook in less time.
- Price. Powerful devices in stores are expensive.
- Heating modes. The kitchen appliance operates in different modes. Consumption from 10% to 100% of the nominal value.
- Electricity consumption. Directly affects how much you have to pay for electricity.
How to configure and how to set the required parameter
The secret to making the perfect meal lies in the watts used. The authors of the recipes rarely indicate the technical parameters of their oven, most often indicating only the time it will take to be fully ready.
If you want to cook at low power, for example 500 W, and your appliance is rated for 1000, you need to set 50% of the reference level. But what if you need to cook at high power (say, 1200), and you only have a thousand? In this case, the cooking time should be increased – for every missing 100 W add 10 seconds. The level is regulated by a rotary switch, buttons (conventional or touch), the method depends on the microwave model.
Remember that in any profit center manual there is a special section that indicates the average duration of cooking and reheating common products. Some manufacturers are not lazy to print recipes for simple, tasty and healthy dishes.
You see how many things you need to consider in order to choose the right power:
- electrical network parameters;
- family needs;
- desirable technical characteristics of the profit center
Useful device information
In the microwave oven chamber, any product is heated throughout the entire volume, and not from the surface – this is its difference and advantage. It is this principle that allows you to quickly defrost food: the water molecules contained in meat or fish are set in motion as a result of the action of radiation emitted by the magnetron. The emitter of microwave waves is the main element of the apparatus, on which the total consumption of kilowatts also depends.
Adjustment
Depending on the purpose and the specific recipe, the microwave oven is used in modes, referred to in various versions. The definitions of microwave heating levels are applied:
- 10%, 100 W – low, low. The mode of automatic heating of the dish at the end of cooking, defrosting / heating of delicate food.
- 25%, 200-400 W – medium / low, below average. Thawing / reheating semi-finished products and raw products; cooking dishes that do not tolerate significant temperatures.
- 50%, 500 W – medium, average. Leisurely preparation of soups, fish / meat dishes; quick heating of prepared food.
- 70%, 700W – medium / high, above average. Cooking fruits / vegetables, sauces / drinks, poultry and simple meals.
- 100%, 800-1000 W – high, maximum. Intensive cooking mode, rarely used.
The most popular among users is the average power of electronic devices. All values are programmed by the manufacturer or set manually. Most modern models have a function for memorizing the modes used.
Discrete and inverter principles
The amount of microwave energy supplied depends on a magnetron, a heater for intense radio waves. The principle of operation of a discrete device is based on the supply of constant 100% of the set power. When switching to lower values of power parameters required in different modes of the device, the emitter alternates on / off cycles for a time set by the timer. The duration of the periods depends on the selected mode – the longer the switch-on, the more heating.
The more advanced inverter technology of a microwave device involves a gradual increase in heating power. This appliance function optimally preserves the nutrients and texture of the food. There are electrical appliances equipped with two microwave radiators for even distribution of energy. In everyday life, the power consumption of a microwave oven varies from 500 to 1700 W – the speed of processes in the device chamber depends on this value. In the industrial sector, the maximum microwave power of the oven is 2500 W.
Optimum microwave power in kW
A kilowatt is a measure of energy consumed or produced and work done per hour. Accordingly, to count in watts, the number must be multiplied by one thousand. So how much does a microwave consume?
The total amount of electricity consumed by the appliance depends on its power.
Also, the amount of consumption is affected by the operating time, various modes of use. To calculate, using the example of a microwave oven, how much it consumes, you need to find out the power in the instructions. Let the maximum power be 1 kW / h. If the microwave is used in everyday life mainly for heating and cooking food, and it takes, for example, 30 minutes per day, then the number of minutes of using the microwave per month will be about 900 minutes, which is 15 hours. By simple calculations, by multiplying the declared power by the operating time, we get an energy consumption equal to 15 kW / h. On average, the power of the furnace depends on the heating mode and the heating time, which can be increased or decreased.

The kW consumption of the microwave is affected by the mode and operating time of the device.
On average, the indicators are as follows :
- Fast cooking mode – average amount 0.9 kW;
- heating food and cooking slowly – about 0.7 kW;
- defrosting food – average power from 0.2 to 0.5 kW;
- fast heating – power approx. 0.1 – 0.2 kW.
With such data, the ability to calculate and check everything on your own, we can conclude that a too powerful microwave is not needed on the farm. If you install and use only such modes, it becomes clear that the microwave power of 0.6-0.8 kW is quite enough for domestic needs. Another indicator that affects power is the size of the food to be cooked or the size of the food to be defrosted.
Principles when choosing a microwave
The question “which power is better” is not entirely correct. The answer depends on the tasks that are supposed to be assigned to the device. If the purchase is made to heat up small individual portions, then it makes no sense to dwell on models with a power higher than 1 kW. In the case when the oven will be used for cooking various dishes in increased volumes, it makes sense to consider options with a device power of 1.5 – 2 kW or more.
It should be understood that the maximum power of a microwave oven does not necessarily mean that that amount of electrical energy has been consumed. For example, with the declared 2500 watts, the microwave included in the “warming up” mode will consume no more than 250 – 300 watts.
On the other hand, when choosing a suitable model, it should be borne in mind that an oven operating at the limit of its maximum capabilities will deteriorate faster. Therefore, if possible, it is better to take a microwave with a power reserve. This will allow it to operate for a long time without the need for additional expenses for repairs or even a complete replacement.
It is always necessary to justify your choice with objective reasons. You should not give up a set of additional functions just because “you don't need it right now.” Counting on the long-term operation of the purchased equipment, it is better to think over everything in advance. Only in this way can an ordinary microwave oven turn into a real “kitchen helper” and delight with impeccable service for many years.
Power consumption calculations
To determine the power of your microwave, find a sticker on it or a package from it that says: power xxxx (value 850) W, kW or W.
Let's say that we have a 1000 Watt stove in our house, which means that it consumes about 1000 W or 1 kW / h in one hour of operation in the maximum mode.
To determine kilowatts per 1 minute of operation, you need: 1000 (power) / 60 (minutes per hour) ≈ 16.7 W ≈ 0.0167 kW / per minute.
If the food is heated for 3 minutes: 0.0167 * 3 = 0.0501 kW / per heating for 3 minutes.
For example, we reheat food 4 times a day: 3 (number of minutes of operation) 0.0167 kW (for 1 minute of operation) 4 (number of warm-ups) = 0.2004 kW / per day.
Consumption per month with such work will be: 0.2004 (consumption per day) * 30 (days per month) = 6.012 kW / per month.
To calculate the amount, you need: 6.012 * 3.5r (arith for 1 kW / hour, in each region, district, city and village there are different tariffs) = 21.042 rubles will have to be paid for using the microwave.
Do not forget that we have calculated the consumption for a 1000 W microwave oven. For other furnaces with a higher or lower power, there will be different values and costs!
All microwave ovens existing on the market for home appliances are equipped with a control unit and a module, on which the power consumption directly depends. A module can be as simple as a set of standard switches. Or processor, which is used to obtain complex dishes.
Almost all of them know how to defrost food and, of course, reheat ready-made ones.
For a simple heating of food to room temperature, 0.1 kilowatts are needed, for defrosting, it will be necessary from 0.2 to 0.4 kilowatts. If you have to warm up food to a hot state, then the indicator will be 0.7 kW, but for high-speed cooking you need 0.9 kilowatts.
On a note!
While in standby mode, the device also consumes electrical energy.
Standby consumption is between 1.5 and 4 watts. The main user of electricity in this case is the display panel, it shows the current time.
Appetites of modes
Tools combined in a home microwave:
- 500–1700 W – magnetron, microwave heater;
- 1.5 kW – grill (quartz / heating element);
- 2 kW – convector that blows hot air with a fan.
A quartz-type grill is more economical, since it consumes less energy than a heating element, which also takes up the useful volume of the chamber. Adding grill and convection functions (what is it?) Automatically increases the total energy consumption and power demand. Separate use of additional microwave tools is provided, which automatically reduces energy consumption.
I open the case
I want to warn you right away that electromagnetic radiation of the microwave range can harm your health, and high voltage can be fatal. But that won't stop me.
Removing the lid from the microwave reveals a large transformer: ILO. It raises the mains voltage from 220 volts to 2000 volts to power the magnetron.
In this video, I want to show you what such tension is capable of:
Influence of the regime
Modes
Before purchasing a microwave oven, the user must determine what he will use it for. By clearly defining goals, power values can be calculated. What is the power consumption of almost any microwave oven? Pay attention to the table:
| Microwave mode | W |
| Fast cooking | 900 |
| Warming up | 700 |
| Defrosting | 200-400 |
| Warming up | 100 |
If the dish is bulky, then heating is slow. And, for example, a small bowl of soup can heat up very quickly.
Microwave consumption depending on energy efficiency class
Recently, home appliance manufacturers are obliged to indicate the efficiency class on the packaging. In total, 7 classes are accepted in our country and abroad, they are designated by letters of the Latin alphabet from A to G, where the letter shows the ratio between the electricity consumed and the amount of food prepared. The lower this figure is, the more efficient the operation of the device is.
Advantages and disadvantages
So, it's time to formulate the main differences between microwave heating and classical heating:
High heating rate. Since the treatment with a high-frequency (HF) field is carried out simultaneously throughout the entire volume, the product heats up extremely quickly – in a matter of minutes.- Uniform heating. Thanks to uniform heating, there is no need to heat its outer layer to an elevated temperature. This prevents burning.
- The ability to automate cooking. When using a microwave oven, there is no need to monitor the process – to stir, turn over, etc. It is enough to indicate the weight and type of the pledged product and describe the necessary operation: heating, cooking, etc. The device will do the rest on its own.
- Impossibility of roasting. The microwave field, unlike a frying pan or grill, heats food evenly, which means it is not able to fry them until crisp.
The only seemingly inherent disadvantage of microwaves is the impossibility of frying, but the designers also solved this issue by equipping the device with conventional thermoelectric heaters, like an electric oven. With their help, you can easily fry the product. In addition, there are so-called Krusty plates, made of a special material that can be safely heated by microwave currents. Put a chop on such a plate and the stove will not only cook it quickly, but also fry it, since this pan heats up to 200 degrees.
Microwave equipment
There is a table with equipment (grill and grill + convection) and consumption for 1 hour of operation. The data are within the limits because everything depends on the power, for example, an 800 W oven consumes 0.8 kW / h, and if it has a grill, then the consumption will increase to 1.8 kW / h.
Radiation damage
According to this myth, everyone who is near the microwave oven receives radiation exposure. Moreover, even a switched-off stove radiates no worse than a Chernobyl tractor. But if you believe the basics of nuclear physics (everyone went through it in school), the radiation that everyone is so afraid of and which is really dangerous is ionizing radiation.
Take a look at the list that lists the types of electromagnetic radiation, arranged in descending order of their wavelength:
- radio waves – 10 km – 0.1 mm;
- infrared radiation – 1 mm – 780 nm;
- visible radiation (light) – 780 – 380 nm;
- ultraviolet radiation – 380 – 10 nm;
- X-ray radiation – 10 – 5 pm;
- hard (gamma) radiation – less than 5 pm.
Of the entire list, only the last two items are fully ionizing and partially ionizing – the third from the bottom (UV light). And only gamma radiation can leave behind the induced radiation. The wavelength of the electromagnetic field of the microwave oven is 12 cm. It is much more logical to be afraid of the visible light emitted by Ilyich's lamp, the ionizing capacity of which is 3 orders of magnitude higher than the radiation of the microwave. But, despite the obvious, no one is afraid of light bulbs, microwave ovens – almost everyone.
Does high-frequency radiation alter the properties of products.
There is an opinion that, having been in the microwave, food changes its physical structure. Some connections are supposedly destroyed, others appear, the charge, pole, degree, memory change – whatever. After all this disgrace, wholesome food products turn into poison.
Microwave radiation, as mentioned above, affects polar molecules, which are water molecules. Today science reliably knows that water is an amorphous body and has no structure at all, if it is not in a frozen state. How can this very structure change if an amorphous body does not have it at all?
The birth of such a myth is most likely associated with the concept of “structured water”, which appeared thanks to all sorts of pseudosciences such as homeopathy and “businessmen” selling “charging” water trays and other miracles of parallel worlds technology.
Where is the data
In the accompanying documents of household appliances, the parameters of the microwave power produced by the magnetron (heater) are not indicated – only the amount of electricity consumed by the microwave oven devices in aggregate is indicated. The output power emitted by the magnetron is proportional to the supply voltage.
And how do you know what the power of a kitchen appliance is? The technical characteristics declared by the manufacturer are indicated:
- on the back of the appliance in the rating plate;
- See the attached user manual for instructions.
How the magnetron works
The creation of electromagnetic waves in a microwave oven is due to the work of a magnetron. This is a special copper-walled diode. During operation, the magnetron generates a significant amount of heat, but it is not used to heat food. The heat from the magnetron is discharged outside using a special heatsink that blows over the diode mechanism.
The magnetron does not function continuously. To reach the maximum temperature in the oven, and the power of the device, the sensor needs 20-25 seconds, depending on the technical characteristics of the unit. After a certain period of time, the magnetron turns off and after 5-10 seconds it starts up again.
Saving electricity
If you want to save money on the microwave:
- after warming up, remove the plug from the outlet (or at least do it at night), in standby mode it consumes 0.003 kW / h, at night (12 hours) in the outlet ≈ 0.036 kW almost 3 minutes of warming up (in the first video it was shown and told about standby consumption),
- for quick warm-up, close with special, tight lids (as in the first video).
Waste of electrical energy
Previously, super-frequency units were produced and sold, in which it was impossible to change the power mode. To date, this problem has been eliminated thanks to a special device – an inverter. Devices that have an inverter do not need to be turned off. Heating takes place without any pauses, which gives the food flavor.
Pay attention to the table, where calculations are given of how much power consumption of electrical energy by a microwave oven for a different period of time:
| Period of time | Electricity |
| One day | 150-200 Watt |
| One month | 5000-7000 W |
If you want to save money, do the following:
- Remove the plug from the socket at the end of the process.
- To reheat food, use solo ovens, which are more economical.
How to choose a microwave
A characteristic feature of any type of microwave oven is the ability to heat the product at once throughout the entire volume, and not in parts, as in the oven. The defrosting and cooking of food takes place in a similar manner.
Tips on how to reduce microwave energy consumption
The use of these devices allows you to save some money. They actually use less electricity than stoves or ovens. When buying a stove, you need to pay attention to its efficiency class.
Advice!
It makes sense to buy equipment of class A, B or C. Equipment with an index of D and below will work inefficiently and will lead to an increase in electricity bills.
You can save on using this device as follows:
- do not use the defrosting mode again;
