October is a special month in the field of women's health, and, of course, modern, self-respecting cosmetic brands do not stand aside. They turn pink every year, supporting a worldwide breast cancer awareness and control initiative. inform.com.de talks about five such companies that are more than just a business.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. In our country, the problem of breast cancer is also very relevant. In 2020 alone, more than 14,500 Ukrainian women were diagnosed with this. That is why every year more and more socially responsible companies around the world are joining the mass pink ribbon movement.
As part of World Breast Cancer Month, our editorial staff reminds its readers of the importance of regular breast examinations and talks about the good initiatives of five beauty brands that are fighting the spread of this disease not in word but in deed.
Mary Kay
Sometimes lipstick or lip gloss is not just another beauty purchase, but a real help to people. For over 17 years, Mary Kay ‘s Pink Changes Lives global initiative has supported breast cancer research and assisted women affected by the disease. As part of a good mission, the Ukrainian branch of the brand conducts a free rehabilitation program for women who have undergone surgery to remove a malignant tumor. And that is not all. Every year the company launches special products, part of the proceeds from the sale of which goes to finance a charity program. In 2021, the brand proposes to change lives for the better by discovering two limited edition shades of Mary Kay Unlimited lip gloss.– Pink with a sophisticated creamy finish or Lilac with a playful shimmer. Gloss conditions the skin of the lips, gives them intensive moisture, contains vitamins C and E, is easy and convenient to use, does not leave stickiness and is tested by dermatologists.
Volume 3.9 ml, estimated price 390 UAH.
The company will transfer UAH 35 from the sale of each unit of charitable products to the account of the Women's Health and Family Planning Foundation in support of Ukrainian women who have experienced breast cancer. Buying lip gloss has never been so pleasant and rewarding!
Estee Lauder
Speaking of the corporations supporting this important historic initiative, one cannot help but think of the Estée Lauder company that started it all. More precisely, with Evelyn Lauder, daughter-in-law of the founder of Estée Lauder Companies and vice president of the company, who died of ovarian cancer in 2011. But back in 1992, she created the global Breast Cancer Campaign, founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and co-created the pink ribbon, the main international symbol of solidarity in the fight against breast cancer.
For three decades, the corporation has held large-scale October events in more than 70 countries around the world, donating tens of millions of dollars during this time to research, education and medical services for women after breast cancer. Each year, the Estée Lauder Companies (Clinique, La Mer, Bobbi Brown, Aveda, Darphin, Estee Lauder) take part in the initiative by launching pink colored products. This year, Estee Lauder's charity product is the iconic Advanced Night Repair Night Serum in a limited edition package.
Avon
In order to draw attention to the problem and a reminder that once a year you need to be examined by a mammologist, Avon is holding a charitable program "Mission Against Breast Cancer" in Ukraine, which turns 20 this year. The initiative is aimed not only at fighting the disease and increasing awareness of prevention methods, but also at real help – every year the company buys modern mammography equipment for public medical institutions so that every woman in different parts of the country has the opportunity to monitor her own health.
The good goal of defeating the terrible disease has brought results: to date, the company has donated 20 units of medical devices to Ukrainian hospitals for examining the breast and diagnosing pathologies.
RevitaLash
The brand of premium eyelash, eyebrow and hair care products RevitaLash Cosmetics also actively and extensively supports breast cancer funds: information campaigns, research, prevention and treatment of the disease. Moreover, it does this not only in October, but throughout the year. The brand considers the fight against breast cancer to be its global mission, origin, philosophy and main goal. The start of all this was put at one time by an eyelash serum, which was created by the founder of RevitaLash Cosmetics, ophthalmologist Michael Brinkengoff in the most difficult period of his life – during the fight against breast cancer with his wife Gail. The serum was aimed at strengthening and restoring the growth of eyelashes during chemotherapy, and today is a cult product of the brand.
The main concept of RevitaLash is the principle of eternally pink (eternally pink): every day from the sale of each unit of the product, part of the funds is transferred to the brand's philanthropic fund, which provides assistance to women with cancer around the world, including Ukrainians. This means that by buying any product of the brand, you automatically become a philanthropist.
"Center of Excellence"
One of the important activities of the Kyiv "Center of Excellence" by Elena Osennaya is a charity project, in which the studio helps women after a mastectomy (an operation to remove the mammary gland). Modern plastic surgery makes it possible to actually completely restore the very shape and desired size of the mammary gland, however, the areola, a particularly delicate and complex part of the female breast, is not always successfully reconstructed.
That is why the Center of Excellence, which specializes in permanent make-up and cosmetology, came up with a free service – areola restoration with the help of aesthetic tattoo after surgery. The studio cooperates with doctors, psychologists and psychotherapists who work with cancer patients. This helps permanent tattoo artists to better understand how to find the right words and approach for each client. Learn more about the procedure here.
