Let's figure it out for two?
Bubble Bobble
Bubble Bobble was made exclusively for two-player play. Together with a friend, you play as Boob and Bob, making your way through hundreds of levels and destroying enemies with bubbles to save your girls.
Smash TV
In Smash TV, you and your friend take part in a brutal game where you have to shoot hordes of enemies. The coolest thing about it is that you can play with two controllers at the same time, so you can use the two crosses to move and shoot in two different directions.
Rampart
In competitive multiplayer Rampart, each of you builds several castles, equip them with cannons and arrange sieges for your opponent.
Marble Madness
In the single player mode of Marble Madness, you need to manage to lead your marble through intricate mazes at a given time, but the competition with a real living person, as in the mode for two players, is much more intense.
Against
One of the first and best examples of side-scrolling shooting games. Contra is an incredibly difficult game, so having a friend to help is highly appreciated. Just remember: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start. Thank us later !.
Blades of Steel
One of the best ice hockey games on Dendy. Blades of Steel even had the opportunity to fight the opposing team!
Battletoads
This is one of the most difficult games ever created, and there is no code for extra lives here – you have to play by the rules. While the game may seem overly complex, it was incredibly ambitious for its time, combining a variety of gameplay styles into one product. Unfortunately, some versions of the game in two player mode have a bug that makes it impossible to complete it, but as long as this continues, the game is absolutely great.
Tecmo Bowl
One of the best sports games of its time, which is still loved today. It had a digitized voice, and it was also one of the first games with the names of real athletes!
Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers
A stunning platformer by Capcom based on the cult animated series Chip and Dale. Atmospheric, beautiful, with good music and wonderful simple, extremely addictive gameplay. As a child, I played it with a friend (played dozens of times), and then, when I grew up, got married, I learned that my wife also loved this game as a child. So we periodically go through it with her.
Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers 2
Another great 8-bit game for two. Not better, but not worse than the original. Also one of childhood favorite games with iconic game design and perfect platformer gameplay. Both parts have stood the test of time.
Double Dragon II
The second part will be called the best. And, yes, the game is very difficult, in the best traditions of that amazing time. It plays well to this day.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game
Iconic “Turtles”, another difficult and absolutely wonderful cooperative game for the NES (“Dandy” in our area, I remind you again). We kids of the 1990s were video game fans as well as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans. Two in one! Success was guaranteed.
Snake Rattle ‘n' Roll
A platformer from Rare of exceptional quality and great co-op mode. However, I would recommend the Mega Drive version.
Battle City (1990 Tank)
I played in “Tanchiki” with my grandfather, together with my grandmother, together with all my childhood friends. Another eternal game that never gets old and that is always relevant. I am sure that many people have nostalgic feelings with this game.
The best games on the NES
All the classics for the legendary console from Nintendo.
Nowadays, launching any of the classics for the Nintendo Entertainment System is a great way to briefly return to the golden age of the video game industry. The 8-bit home console from Nintendo Dandy, with its diverse library of projects from both the company itself and from third-party developers, was the first introduction to the world of video games for many of us.
The NES ‘slick pixel art captured the imagination of gamers, and many of the tunes found in games became as immortal as the console itself.
Of course, on this platform, there were enough openly passable projects, so to save your time, we have selected 25 games that best characterize the NES era. We realized that this list could be overflowing with games from the Mario, Link and Mega Man series, and therefore decided to keep one representative from each franchise.
So, if you're looking to freshen up your memories or discover games that have inspired an entire generation, here are some of the best NES games of all time.
BATMAN: THE VIDEO GAME
At first glance, Batman was an ordinary platformer – you jump yourself, hit enemies and earn points. However, the hero had one trick that put him on a par with Ryu from Ninja Gaiden: the voljump. Batman could push off walls to climb into some hard-to-reach places. Today this does not surprise anyone, but in those days such a mechanic was a serious thing, allowing you to get up so much with level design that wow! Combine that with the fairly high difficulty and great soundtrack, and you have a solid platformer that is still considered the best game adaptation by some Bats fans. For Dandy, of course.
DUCK HUNT
SUPER DODGE BALL
STARTROPICS
StarTropics isn't nearly as popular on the NES platform as the Zelda series, but that didn't stop it from being a great adventure in the same vein. The thing is that the developers of the game skillfully used two main mechanics of Zelda: the perspective of the camera from the dungeons and the world map of Zelda 2. The main character of StarTropic, Mike Jones, wanders through the cities and other places in search of clues and battles where he will need the right yo-yo as a weapon. Did we mention that he is always trying to shove bananas in his ears?
KID ICARUS
ADVENTURE ISLAND
MIKE TYSON’S PUNCH-OUT!!
CASTLEVANIA 3: DRACULA’S CURSE
Blaster Master
It's a pity that Blaster Master lost its Japanese name (Super Planetary War Records: Metafight) during localization, but it retained the dynamic action game so beloved by gamers. Smooth controls and fantastic level design perfectly complemented the excellent graphics, both in side-scrolling and top-down modes. And we warn you in advance: the game is best played in one run, therefore it is recommended to free the whole day for these purposes.
Dr. Mario
Color matching puzzles are truly immortal, and Dr. Mario. She, of course, lacks the depth of some competitors, but the game does not hold the charm, and therefore she entered the list of classic projects for the NES. The game about Dr. Mario invited us to fight diseases in a very non-trivial way: by combining matching pills in a row. And she was attracted by the addictive gameplay and contagious music and rich graphics.
Final Fantasy
The original Final Fantasy began predictably – a squad of heroes were sent to rescue the princess, but the scale of the story grew unexpectedly towards the end. The first Final Fantasy, with outstanding graphics and soundtrack at the time, laid the foundations for the legendary series, and is worth checking out just for the sake of it. The game, of course, was not perfect, but after completing it, you will understand why gamers still love the FF series to this day.
Kirby’s Adventure
The Pink Hairball is best known for its appearances in portable console games, but Kirby's home console debut was quite respectable. Kirby's Adventure builds on the ideas behind the first game and introduces Kirby's new ability, the ability to copy enemy forces. Launched at the end of the NES era, the project is as addictive platformer as the Kirby game for the Game Boy.
Ninja Gaiden 2: The Dark Sword of Chaos
The second Ninja Gaiden improved on the original in almost every way, while retaining the dark atmosphere of the game. We still ran through the levels as Ryu Hayabusa, but this time around, the scenery became noticeably prettier, the soundtrack was nicer, and the controls were more comfortable. But it all fades in the light of the improved gameplay.
Ryu was able to clone himself and climb onto previously inaccessible platforms. Add a ton of power-ups to the already powerful Ryu and you have the best ninja simulator of the time.
River City Ransom
Games like Double Dragon, Ghosts ‘n Goblins, and The Legend of Kage are memorable but don't win our hearts the way Technos' fighting games do. River City Ransom uses the familiar storyline of a school gang showdown and infuses it with a healthy dose of humor. With an open world, non-linear setting, and RPG elements, RCR was way ahead of its time.
While pumping the strength and abilities of the hero, we managed to become so attached to him that the game simply did not want to end, and this was a real rarity in the NES era.
Bionic Commando
Based on the arcade game of the same name, Bionic Commando was another classic Capcom project that sold well on the NES. Despite being a side-scrolling game, Bionic Commando focused more on exploring locations and battles than running from the left corner of the screen to the right. The main character here was Nathan “Red” Spencer, who goes to rescue Super Joe and along the way deal with the enemy crowds.
It was a typical platformer, but instead of jumping, we used a grappling hook to swing and climb onto the platforms. Not the easiest action, but over time anyone could master it.
Metroid
As impressive as the sequels were, it should be noted that the original Metroid was simply an amazing project for its time. Sure, the local gameplay looks a little awkward compared to Super Metroid, but of all the games in the series hitting the NES, the first is by far the best.
In it, we meet Samus, one of the few female heroines in the gaming industry, with a dark sci-fi setting and unlimited gameplay that will later become a hallmark of the series. It's worth returning to the original Metroid if only for the tense atmosphere and thoughtful exploration of every corner of the map.
Ice Climber
There are two ways to play Ice Climber together: you can break stones together and climb to the top of the mountain, or you can try to climb as quickly as possible and throw your “partner” below.
