Osteoarthritis is a chronic inflammatory and degenerative joint change resulting in bone degeneration.
Let's talk about the causes of arthrosis of the toes, symptoms, stages of the disease and treatment methods.
Deforming arthrosis of the foot occurs in humans for the following reasons:
• uncomfortable shoes;
• unbalanced nutrition;
• increased body weight;
• flat feet;
• rachiocampsis;
• professional activity that takes place on your feet;
• genetic predisposition;
• congenital anomalies – deformed joints, different lengths of the lower extremities.
There are 3 stages of the disease:
1 First
With prolonged walking or with increased stress, painful sensations appear in the toes, an increase in the foot (swelling), as well as a crunch of joints.
2 The second
Occurs with the progression of the disease and manifests itself:
• The joint membrane of the toes, first of all, of the big one, thickens, fluid accumulates inside the joint, and osteophytes grow.
• Pains become constant and fingers move out of their normal positions.
• A so-called “bone” appears at the base of the thumb, then the deformation spreads to the adjacent fingers.
• Nodules appear on the inner surfaces of the joint and harden over time.
3 Third
Joints lose mobility, pain becomes constant, and walking becomes difficult. It can also lead to muscle wasting and bone fragility.
How to recognize arthrosis of the fingers?
First of all, arthrosis of the toes is characterized by aching pain in the joints, more often at night.
The painful sensations intensify when walking, when carrying a heavy load.
The clinical picture is complemented by the symptoms of the inflammation process:
• redness;
• swelling;
• increased temperature in the area of the fingers.
If you do not take any measures, arthrosis moves to the next stage of development, while the symptoms also progress – the pain intensifies, a crunch appears in the joints. Patients complain of a decrease in foot mobility, the appearance of dry calluses on the back.
In the later stages, a specific symptom is added to the already constant pain – neoplasms appear in the bone tissue in the area of the phalanges of the fingers. In this case, the foot loses its normal appearance, difficulties appear when walking, the joints practically do not move. Due to the growth of bone tissue on the phalanges of the toes, it is difficult to choose shoes – often you have to buy shoes or ordinary sneakers with a solid sole that are several sizes larger.
It is possible to get rid of arthrosis of the legs only before its manifestations have become irreversible :
At the first stage of the disease, the disease is curable, including folk remedies (if they are selected correctly).
At the second stage, it is necessary to carry out diagnostics and treatment by an orthopedist, which will help eliminate painful symptoms and stop degenerative changes in the legs – however, it will not be possible to completely restore the cartilage.
The third stage requires constant medical supervision. Sometimes surgical treatment of the joint is recommended, first of all, the removal of the “bone” at the base of the thumb.
Medicines for pain relief and inflammation
reliefMedicine therapy for arthrosis of the foot includes the use of drugs of different groups, each of which performs a separate task:
1 Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that relieve pain and prevent inflammation. They do not cure arthrosis, their main purpose is to alleviate the course of the disease. Popular NSAIDs include: Ibuprofen, Ortofen, Menovazin ointment.
2 Analgesics, which are used in the second stage of arthritis of the foot, when the patient has severe pain. For the operative blocking of painful sensations, doctors prescribe drugs: “Apizatron”, “Viprosal”, “Nikoflex”.
3 Chondroprotectors, with the help of which destroyed cartilage tissue is restored. They contain substances that make up the articular cartilage. But these drugs are effective only in the first stage of the disease. They are taken in long courses, and the first positive results appear only after 3-4 months of treatment. The most effective chondroprotectors are Artra, Structum, Dona.
4 Vitamins and minerals that increase immunity, help the body to recover on its own, normalizing metabolic processes. Effective vitamin and mineral preparations for arthrosis of the foot include: “Vitrum”, “Bishofit”, “Oligovit”.
