What is talc and should you be afraid of it

Talc is a natural mineral that is made up of silicon, oxygen, and magnesium and is designed to absorb moisture (so help prevent rashes). In its natural (unrefined) state, talc can contain asbestos, which is a known cancer-causing carcinogen. 

Some studies by American scientists have shown that women who regularly use talcum powder for intimate hygiene are at a higher risk of developing uterine cancer. According to experts, small powder particles can penetrate into the internal genital organs and accumulate there for years, causing chronic inflammation, which provokes the appearance of malignant tumors.

Meanwhile, special studies conducted by the European Association of Talc Manufacturers have shown that it is harmless to health. And according to the American Cancer Society, commercial products containing talc have not been contaminated with asbestos since the 1970s.
