Light forests: how perfume with phytoncides helps to escape from stress

Functional fragrances are a new perfume trend with huge potential. This is a great way to make fragrance work for your well-being – both physically and mentally.

The pandemic has changed the way we perceive scents — and it's not just about our post-COVID-19 smell problems. In recent years, perfumes with “confectionery" notes have ruled the perfume market. The most popular accord was ethyl maltol, a synthetic substance called "perfume sugar". By changing its concentration in perfume, you can achieve the smell of cotton candy, chocolate, caramel or vanilla. In quarantine, fragrances with ethyl maltol were suddenly left out of work: they are too loud and sillage, which tired many girls, given the constant stay at home. And everyone was interested in healthy eating, fitness and meditation. Perfume brands have responded responsively: Maison Margiela has released Matcha Meditation, and Initio Parfums has introduced Musk Therapy with white sandalwood, which relaxes and gives self-confidence. But everyone was beaten by The Nue Co.

Love for organic

Founder of The Nue Co. Juliana Miller decided to create a brand of nutritional supplements and skin care products, inspired by the example of her grandfather, who devoted his life to the development of vitamin complexes and dietary supplements. But he never took them himself, because they were made chemically with the addition of preservatives and dyes.

I thought there must be a better way, Juliana decided. And in 2017 she created The Nue Co. with all-natural nutritional supplement formulas. They have no place for toxins, sweeteners and flavorings. All raw materials are extracted only from renewable sources. 95% of packages and vials are recyclable. But Juliana Miller aims to bring this figure to 100%.

Ayurveda and perfume

Miller has her own take on fragrances: in her opinion, all of them should bring practical benefits to our health and emotional state. First fragrance for The Nue Co. was created by perfumer Frank Foeckl, taking into account Ayurvedic recipes. The name Functional Fragrance speaks for itself: it is a perfume to recuperate after a lot of stress.

Not without clinical trials: already half an hour after applying Functional Fragrance, all those tested noted that the signs of stress were becoming less pronounced. "Functional aroma" Juliana calls it – an anti-stress supplement. With a pleasant woody-spicy aroma of guaiac wood, palo santo, myrrh, cedar and bergamot.

Forest therapy, Japan and perfume with phytoncides

Light forests: how perfume with phytoncides helps to escape from stress

The concept of functional fragrances was accepted by fans of wellness and spiritual practices with a bang. And then Juliana decided on a larger idea: to enclose the smell of … a real forest in a glass perfume bottle! She was inspired by the shinrin yoku forest bathrooms, invented by the Japanese. A walk in the woods is the simplest anti-stress therapy you can think of. It is considered a form of meditation – and, of course, healing aromatherapy.

Some types of trees emit substances such as phytoncides – natural antiseptics. Knowing this, Microsoft installed a work site made of coniferous wood for its employees (there are a lot of phytoncides in it). And it's not just about the prevention of viruses and colds. Phytoncides normalize cerebral circulation, calm the nervous system, and help prevent insomnia and neuroses. A real zen effect!

“We need to create a perfume with natural phytoncides,” Juliana set the task for perfumer Guillaume Flavigny. He took pine phytoncides as a basis, supplemented them with vetiver, patchouli, benzoin and cedar. The resulting fragrance came up with the most appropriate name – Forest Lungs. Its slogan reads: "We get rid of stress much faster when we are in nature."

Perfume with phytoncides Forest Lungs was released in December 2020. Foreign media write that it is "regularly swept off the shelves." We readily understand why. To do this, just look at the reviews:

“Although I was skeptical about the ability of spirits to deal with stress, after half an hour I understood why it is so popular. It took me only two sprays to achieve the effect that previously could only be achieved with the help of full meditation. “

“I was fascinated by the concept of the fragrance, so I bought it right after the release. It was a good decision: I really feel that it calms and relieves anxiety"

"This deep green scent of the forest will lift your spirits and energize you."

All in all, Forest Lungs fragrance is a must-have for those who are looking for an original solution to the problem of stress, but cannot yet find time for regular forest therapy.
