The slogan of the new collection is “How will we live without the ocean?". It is designed to draw attention to the problem of pollution of the planet's water resources and the changes caused by global warming.

Many cosmetic brands have their touching traditions – and they are increasingly developing into something more than just seasonal or limited collections. The Biotherm brand made such an annual collaboration with artists and photographers, the purpose of which is to draw attention to environmental issues. So, in 2019, photographer Saskia Sandrok created a project for the brand dedicated to World Oceans Day. Now that the pandemic has begun to recede, the French brand has again decided to remind you how important it is to conserve water resources for the future of mankind. Biotherm and Coco Capitán have released a limited collection, which has recently gone on sale.

Biotherm and ocean

The history of the brand is inextricably linked with water – it owes it the effectiveness of all its products. Thermal springs were discovered in the French Pyrenees in the 18th century. It happened by a lucky chance: the dog of the local Marquis Llupija suffered from a skin disease, but after swimming in one of the local reservoirs, the disease disappeared in the shortest possible time. On this site, the Terme Llupia was erected, which was visited by people with dermatological problems and those who dreamed of rejuvenation.

In 1950, an employee of a local clinic named Jeannine Marissal carefully studied the chemical composition of the water from the term. It turned out that it contains a lot of "thermal plankton", rich in mineral salts, vitamins B, C, D. Jeannine came up with the idea of adding plankton powder to cosmetics so that women can experience its miraculous properties at home. Marissal called the brand of products with miracle plankton Biotherm (bio – "life", therm – "thermal water").

Since then, Biotherm has been using thermal water to help women get rid of skin problems. But he does not forget to respond to nature with gratitude for her gift. Biotherm was the first to make sunscreens free of microplastics because they pollute the oceans. The Waterlover line and Biotherm's support for Mission Blue, a global ocean protection project, has made other brands think they should do something for the planet too.

A new stage in the life of the brand is a collaboration with the artist Coco Capitán. Together with her, Biotherm decided to give us an idea of how great the negative impact of climate change on the oceans is. In the design of products from the limited collection, the artist used a fragment of the engraving "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" as a metaphor for the importance of the ocean for humanity.

The line includes: anti-aging face serum, body milk, and moisturizing gel. At the heart of each product is the same thermal plankton with its unique moisturizing, soothing and anti-aging properties. Only glass and recyclable plastic are used as packaging. Otherwise, how will we breathe without the ocean?
