Small fruit gnats are called fruit flies and appear in places where vegetables and fruits begin to rot.
These insects can drive housewives to a real frenzy. Not only do they appear in the hottest season – the time of processing vegetables and fruits, but it is also quite difficult to get rid of them as they are extremely prolific and multiply very quickly.
Let's try to figure out how to quickly get these small, extremely annoying insects out of an apartment or house.
- First you need to find the source in which the fruit flies reproduce. This could be: a basket or bag of vegetables or fruits, a trash can, or some kind of cleaning and crumb left on the table or dropped on the floor. Destroy the hearth, do not hesitate!
- Then go around the apartment. If the midges have multiplied, then they have found a breeding center for themselves. Inspect everything: open cereals, containers for dirty linen, sewers.
Wash the linen and dry it thoroughly, add acids or a special pipe cleaner to destroy the midges and their masonry, and sort the cereals and dry them in the oven.
- To get rid of adults, prepare the bait:
- In a glass, put a fruit that is starting to rot, a banana peel, and a cut tomato.
- Tighten the glass on top with cling film and make small holes in it.
- After the glass is full of insects, discard it along with the midges.
Next, do a general cleaning.
- If fruit flies breed in flower pots, then water the flowers with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Do not overdo it, because the roots of plants with potassium permanganate can be burned.
- It is also advised to arrange orange peels or peeled and chopped garlic cloves in flower pots.
- You can try to smoke midges with camphor. It is crushed and placed in a frying pan. Heat until steam comes out. Walk around all rooms with a steaming pan. Camphor is harmful to midges, but not harmful to humans.
- If you mix 3 tablespoons of vinegar with soapy water, pour this liquid into an open container and place it in a place where midges accumulate, then, seduced by the smell of vinegar, they will fall into the water and drown.

- Ordinary indoor geranium helps very well. Grow it in pots in the kitchen, not only fruit flies, but also flies and mosquitoes do not like it.
- You can use special chemicals: Bazudin; Aktara; Thunder-2; Combat; Raid; Dichlorvos.
- The discovered insect colony can be removed with a vacuum cleaner.
- Midges also dislike the smell of tomato tops. You can sow tomatoes on the lawn under the window, or even in the room.
- Mix 10 cloves in a glass of water. Pour the mixture into a saucepan and simmer for two hours. Open the window. The insects will fly away, they cannot stand the smell of spices.
