All young children love to draw with felt-tip pens. But being touched by bright drawings, we often notice that the little artist's clothes are colored with all the colors of the rainbow.
Marker stains are very persistent, but can be removed.
Let's talk about how this can be done.
There are several types of felt-tip pens, and of course, they need to be washed in different ways.
Water-based markers:
- Spray the contaminated area with oxygen stain remover, wait 10 minutes, and wash clothes with synthetic detergent.
- You can also use dish soap to remove the stain. Simply apply generously to the stain and leave it on for 24 hours. Wash the fabric in a washing machine after 24 hours.
- You can get rid of water-based felt-tip pen stains with hydrogen peroxide (3%). Dab the felt-tip pen stains with a cotton swab previously soaked in peroxide and wash your clothes using a stain remover soap, for example, Antipyatin.
- Salt. Some markers are made with a base that can be easily washed off with salted water. Place a glass of salt in the washing machine to remove this stain. If washing by hand, dissolve the salt in a basin and let the garment soak for several hours. After soaking, the stain will come off easily.
- Spray hairspray on the stain. Wait a couple of minutes. Rinse in hot water and into washing machine.
- Ammonium combined with baking soda or powder for automatic washing. Baking soda and ammonia (1 to 2 ratio) are effective in removing stains. It is necessary to apply it with a sponge to the problem area, wait 10 minutes, rub with the same sponge or any other cleaning item, then rinse with water. Do the same, after mixing ammonia (about 1 tablespoon) and powder for automatic washing of clothes.
Alcohol-based markers:
- Soak a cotton swab in denatured alcohol and start the procedure. Rub the stain and replace the swabs with clean ones as they become dirty. After that, make a soapy solution and wash your clothes in it. Instead of denatured alcohol, you can use vodka, cologne, ammonia, or rubbing alcohol. It is recommended to mix ammonia in equal proportions with turpentine, and dilute medical alcohol (1 tsp. L) in a glass of water.
- Prepare a strong vinegar solution – about 10 tablespoons of the essence in three liters of water. Soak a wardrobe item in this solution for several hours. Periodically, the stain should be rubbed with your hands or a brush. If you do this with your hands, do not forget to wear gloves so as not to dry out your skin.
- You can also remove alcohol-based felt-tip pen stains as follows: grind a piece of laundry soap, place it in a container with alcohol and treat the stained product with the prepared product.
- Folk method: treat the stain with fresh lemon juice mixed in equal parts with alcohol. Enough 10-20 seconds for the solution to begin to act and can already be wiped dry with a dry cloth.
- You can get rid of stains with the help of pharmacy glycerin. Spread it liberally on felt-tip stains and let it sit for about 1 hour. Then pour warm water into a bowl, dissolve 1 tbsp. l of table salt and wash the product with soap.
- Baking soda and vinegar. The following composition is only suitable for white fabrics. It is not recommended to clean colored clothes with such a means, it can shed and change color in this place. Mix equal proportions of baking soda and vinegar. Apply the product immediately to the fabric until it stops sizzling. Indeed, it is at the moment of reaction that the mixture has maximum strength. You can also do this – sprinkle with baking soda on the stain, and then pour vinegar on top. After that, you need to wash the item as usual.
Oil-based markers:
These are the hardest types of stains!
- Treat the stain well with vegetable oil and leave for 2-3 hours. After the specified time has elapsed, wash the item.
- Apply a stain remover or grease solvent to the marks of the felt-tip pen, wait a few hours, and then wash your clothes.
