How to get rid of a splinter

We have all met such a nuisance as a splinter. This body foreign to the body, trapped under the skin, causes very unpleasant painful sensations.

The splinter must be removed immediately. It is quite dangerous, as it almost always causes suppuration and can lead to the formation of felon, or even to blood poisoning.

Let's try to figure out which of the folk remedies can help remove a splinter, at home, without going to a doctor.

The impatient reader will immediately exclaim that “I am removing the splinter with a needle, quickly and angrily.” Great, this is the first folk way. Only a homebrew surgeon should remember to disinfect the needle and the place of the splinter. This can be done with any liquid containing alcohol.

And if surgical operations are not your strong point? There are other ways:

If the splinter is not metallic, then you can smear it with ordinary iodine several times. From this, the splinter can simply dissolve. It is especially good to use iodine when you get a splinter from a tree. The iodine tree simply burns.

It is table salt that will help if a foreign body gets under the nail (alas, it happens often), iodine is not an assistant here. Without hesitation, pour into a glass of hot water, such as you can only endure, add 3 tablespoons of ordinary salt (NaCl) there. It is necessary to dip a sore finger into this solution. Traditional healers promise that the saline solution will push the splinter to the surface of the skin, where it can be easily picked up.

By the way, the procedure is quite lengthy. You need to keep your finger in boiling water with salt for at least 15 minutes. Do not overdo it, we don't need burns. Therefore, the water should be as hot as possible, but not boiling.

You can get a splinter from the heel without a needle only in this way, the skin there is very rough.

Better, of course, that it was the resin of fruit trees. If not, you can try coniferous as well.

The resin is kneaded and applied to the sore spot. Application time is approximately 30 minutes. Then the splinter begins to come out of the skin. And here you need tweezers.

If you still did not manage to get a splinter, you can attach a cotton pad with heated vegetable oil to it. After 15 minutes, try to pull out the adversary, if it does not work, then hold it still. Grandmothers say that the splinter comes out “as cute.”

The scheme is the same. Pour medical alcohol or ordinary vodka into a glass (moonshine is also suitable), put a place with a splinter there and wait.

And our African brethren use banana peels. The process is quite lengthy (a whole night, or 10-12 hours), but very effective. Tie a banana skin on the splinter, with the inside down, and go to bed. In the morning, take off the bandage and easily pull out the invader.

You can use onion gruel. Tie up and be patient for a few hours. Quite unpleasant and painful, but effective!

• Sticky tape (Better adhesive plaster)

Apply to the splinter and peel off. Shallow splinter can be removed perfectly

This method is just a godsend when you need to remove small multiple splinters from thorny plants.

It will help those who do not trust traditional medicine. Buy the ointment at any pharmacy. Apply to the sore spot, make a compress by placing polyethylene on top. Keep it on for a few hours. Then pull out the splinter. It should come out easily.

Please note that the smell of ichthyol ointment is not pleasant.

• Aloe leaf (or Kalanchoe, i.e. living tree)

The sheet is cut and the juicy part is applied to the sore spot. Tied and kept up to 10 hours. Then the leaf is removed and the splinter is taken out.

They say that a piece of bacon tied to it copes with a splinter. I do not know, I have not tried it. But judging by what I have already written, it may well be.

• PVA glue or medical glue.
