How to choose an IP camera: a buying guide and top of the best network cameras. How to choose an IP camera?

Place of installation

Video cameras at the place of installation are divided into outdoor and indoor. The indoor camera can be installed in an apartment, office, or other temperature and humidity controlled location. Outdoor cameras can work at low temperatures, they are not afraid of rain, wind and dust – like, for example, the popular AXIS M1114-E model. It makes sense to pay attention to the peculiarities of installation – if it is important for you to install the camera in a certain place (on a wall, ceiling or an inclined surface).

IP Camera Lens Selection

One of the most important parameters when choosing an IP camera is the angular field of the lens, the basis for determining the number of cameras and their mounting locations. This is the area visible by the lens, the coverage. Viewing angles – horizontal, vertical, diagonal – are directly related to focal length.

The shorter the focal length, the greater the coverage and the shorter the range.

The focal length is constant and variable, lenses with variable focal length are motorized and manually controlled. A manual variable focal length lens greatly facilitates installation, and the distance itself is such that it does not exist with fixed lenses, such as 13.5 mm.

Motorized lens – for continuous monitoring with the need to scale the image frequently.

Table of the dependence of the range and width of coverage on the focal length

For round-the-clock video surveillance with IR illumination as an additional light source, you will need an IP camera equipped with an IR corrected lens. Visible light is focused at one point, while infrared rays are focused at another. If the focus is not shifted, the picture will be blurry, muddy – out of focus. The IR correction in the lens is just the focus shift. IR correction is not always indicated in the documents, although it is present – check with the seller for this point.

Camera resolution: how clear should a network camera’s image be?

When shopping for an inexpensive IP camera, you shouldn’t give up on essential building blocks. Image resolution is undoubtedly the deciding factor: you should stay away from VGA-level models (640×480 pixels). Today, such a permit can be called anything, but not appropriate for the time. With good compression algorithms and huge price drops for hard drives, large amounts of data shouldn’t be a problem either.

First of all, to control land plots, you should choose an IP camera with HD resolution (from 720p). In addition, many network cameras are now equipped with a motion sensor. Variously referred to as “alarm” function automatically starts saving the image to the SD card and can send you a picture notification by email as soon as something or someone flashes in front of the lens. In this case, the refresh rate of the image also has a certain value. With at least 15 frames per second, the chances of the camera capturing a face at just the right moment are good.

IP camera: some models offer additional features such as a smoke detector

IP Camera Matrix Selection

The matrix takes an image from the lens and converts it into a digital stream. The quality of the picture depends on the sensitivity of the matrix. Sensitivity is indicated in lux (lx). Lux is a derivative of one lumen (luminous flux meter) per square meter. The parameter shows the minimum amount of light required to form an image – 0.1 ~ 0.9 lux, 0.01 ~ 0.09 lux, 0.001 ~ 0.009 lux. The more zeros after the dot, the more sensitive the matrix, the better the picture, the longer the IP camera does not go into black and white mode. A matrix with a sensitivity of 0.001 ~ 0.005 lux produces a better image and is capable of forming a color video under the light of street lamps – if the lens aperture does not interfere with this.

Aperture is a relative aperture that lets light through. The smaller the number, the more light will enter the matrix. The aperture of a lens with an aperture of F / 1.2 is higher than with an F / 2.0 – the aperture is larger, more light passes through. There is little benefit from a sensitivity of 0.001 lux if this light is in the observation area, but will not pass to the matrix.

For an IP camera supplied without a lens, it is customary to indicate the sensitivity for optics with F / 1.2. Some manufacturers are tricky and quote F / 1.2 when the camera is equipped with an F / 2.0 lens. Actual sensitivity will be lower than indicated. In addition, manufacturers measure it differently – under different conditions, with a different lens. How to choose an IP camera with good sensitivity?

Pay attention to the size of the matrix. The larger the sensor, the higher the sensitivity in fact (1/4 less than 1 / 2.8). The lower the noise: there are fewer inter-pixel insulating elements on a small matrix, which leads to increased heating, which degrades the signal-to-noise ratio.

There are no too large matrices: the only limitation is the price.

Unfortunately, there is no one-size-fits-all recipe for sensitivity selection. Experience helps, but if not, it is better to turn to specialists, ideally to the manufacturer.

Tracking the object

Yes, there are such cameras! With ZOOM and PTZ control – such as the AXIS M5014 Mini Dome Camera. Many IP cameras also have a built-in motion detector that can monitor movement in several areas at the same time. And privacy masks will allow you to hide some areas of the frame to ensure privacy.

Discernible or petite?

It’s more of a psychological moment. A miniature camera (such as the Sony SNC-CH210S) lets you watch the action unnoticed. You will know how people behave when they think that no one sees them. But if you want people to know that they are being watched, you can buy any camera without worrying about its size. However, in this case, you may need a vandal-resistant camcorder – like, for example, Hikvision DS-2CD7153-E.

IP camera with many functions

IP cameras can offer a variety of additional features to facilitate the surveillance process. For example, FTP support and the ability to send notifications will allow you to post records directly to the Internet. Anyone who would like to “gaze out” a large garden should pay attention to the short focal length to obtain the largest possible viewing angle.

For night shooting, an infrared sensor is useful, which will have a long range. At least five meters, and preferably 30 meters or more. For outdoor surveillance, it is recommended to choose an all-weather model that can work in storm and rain. The IP66 weather protection standard can be considered a necessary minimum here. The Pan-Tilt-Zoom function may also be useful, the models equipped with it are briefly referred to as PTZ cameras. In this case, you can remotely control the zoom and gaze direction.

In terms of camera connectivity, you have three options to choose from. Ethernet cable is the simplest solution. If the IP camera supports the “Power-over-Ethernet” function, then it will receive power through a network cable and an additional wire to the outlet, therefore, it will not be needed at all. The WLAN camera connects to the network wirelessly, only a power connection is required. Alternatively, you can use the power grid for data transmission. Then use the PowerLAN adapter to connect. A manufacturer called Devolo even has an IP camera in which the PowerLAN adapter is already integrated.

Hikvision DS-2CD2085FWD-I

Hikvision DS-2CD2T47G1-L

The high resolution of a CCTV camera does not yet guarantee its ability to shoot well in low light conditions, since the quality of the picture obtained in this mode of operation directly depends on the physical size of the installed matrix. The recommended DS-2CD2T47G1-L caught our attention with a very large sensor (1 / 1.8 ″), which provides a decent light sensitivity. Especially in combination with such high-aperture optics (f / 1.0). We add that when creating new generation lenses, special low-dispersion glass is used, which practically excludes the possibility of the appearance of graphic artifacts. And all this together allows Hikvision’s 4MP camera to successfully shoot in color even at night. According to experts,

Main pluses:

  • full color night photography;
  • high detail;
  • ability for advanced analysis.

  • no built-in support for AcuSense technology;
  • solid price.

Hikvision DS-2CD2542FWD-IS

Probably the smallest IP camera among all models equipped with mechanical IR illumination and correctly implemented electronics. The dimensions of the device do not reach 10 cm, and the depth is only 52 mm. Despite this, the recording quality is quite good at 2688×1520 pixels. The frequency is 20 frames per second, which is pretty good. By lowering the resolution to Full HD, the frequency will increase to 25 FPS. I would also like to note the IK08 and IP67 protection standards. Models with viewing angles of 55 ° and 106 ° are available to the buyer.

Broadcast speed

The slower the recording speed, the faster the objects move on the monitor during playback. Charlie Chaplin didn’t really mince – this cinema was slow.

To display on the monitor in real time, a speed of 25 frames per second is required.

It is believed that 25 fps is always needed. But the total need is far-fetched: real-time video is needed where there is constant movement, and to record what is happening at the emergency exit, the dormant reception, on the roof, some parts of the perimeter, most of the interior rooms of the same office, high speed is not needed – 15 fps is enough, and you can save on bitrate. On the trails, on the contrary, 25 frames per second is not enough – there you need 50-60 fps, so that you can see fast moving cars on smooth scrolling.

What type of food to choose

Modern IP cameras can support several types of power supply: from 12 V DC and 24 V AC sources, as well as using PoE technology. The last method is the most convenient, since in this case, data and power are transmitted over the same cable. Moreover, HighPoE technology with a power of 60 W allows not only transmitting data and power over one cable, but also providing heating and, accordingly, efficient operation in severe frost even for high-speed dome PTZ cameras, for example, BEWARD BD 75-5-P.

How to choose an IP camera: a buying guide and top of the best network cameras. How to choose an IP camera?

How to connect?

At this point, we will try to figure out how to connect an outdoor IP camera using three main methods.

  1. Wi-Fi. Connect the device using Ethernet cables and go to the router interface using the IP address. Go to your wireless network settings, activate it and enter your Wi-Fi connection details. After a few seconds, the network will be found and the connection will become active.
  2. Ethernet. First, install the device in such a place that it is more or less convenient to lay the twisted pair cable. They are usually sold with ready-made plugs, so you just have to pull the cable and plug into the appropriate connectors.
  3. PoE. Such cameras are located far from the power source. The twisted pair has a limitation on the distance of the laying and if it is not observed, the resistance will jam the signal. Try to keep the ratio of the required distance and cable length.

Video quality and stream size

The video image generated by the IP camera is then transmitted over the network and recorded in the data storage system. In order not to overload the network and provide a large archive depth with a small storage system, the camera must support modern highly efficient compression algorithms, such as H.264 HighProfile, as well as work with individual image areas as in the BEWARD N 37210 camera. This will significantly reduce the cost video surveillance systems.

How to choose an IP camera: a buying guide and top of the best network cameras. How to choose an IP camera?

Selecting IP Camera Resolution

Unjustifiably high resolution is fashionable, but often unprofitable: you will have to pay not only for the IP camera itself, but also for high network bandwidth, the processing power of the DVR, terabytes of hard drives, and equipment depreciation. In addition, the higher the resolution, the lower the sensitivity of the matrix – simple arithmetic: more pixels, but the same amount of light, there is less light for each pixel.

Choose a resolution depending on your tasks and shooting conditions. If you do not need great detail, 2 megapixels will do – a resolution sufficient for most tasks.

In some cases, even two megapixels are not needed. Examples:

  1. A high-definition IP camera is installed at the entrance to the office. She records all incoming. In the corridor, already fixed objects move – it is important to move them, and detailing is no longer needed. An IP camera with a resolution of 1 megapixel is enough. The same applies to the interior.
  2. An IP camera with a resolution of 2 megapixels is installed at the entrance to an apartment or house to capture visitors, but in the room itself, high resolution is needed only if you need to know whether a child is reading fiction or a textbook. In other cases, it is already known who moves – a cat or a nanny. 1 megapixel is enough.

High resolution needed:

  • in large open spaces of squares, halls, stadiums, train stations, airports – for shooting at long distances with the subsequent approach of fragments;
  • if necessary, often scale the picture – zoom in on certain areas;
  • for clear differentiation of details, for example, denomination and number of a bill, license plate at a great distance, etc.

In an inexpensive camera, high resolution will play the role of a disservice – a cheap processor is not able to process so many pixels, the pixel size of a small matrix is negligible and therefore it gets a minimum of light, and the picture turns out to be blurry – all other things being equal, its quality is much worse than the quality of a picture with a resolution of 2 Mp.

In general, it takes 20 pixels per meter to detect an object, 200 pixels per meter for recognition (person, car), and 950 pixels per meter for identification (face recognition). Even if the footage is large, it is often better to put two cameras with a resolution of 2 megapixels than one 5 megapixel.

Millenium 433 PTZ

If there is no Internet, and there is a need to organize video surveillance, cellular communication will come to the rescue. The choice of cameras with a built-in 4G modem is not very large, and on the territory of the Russian Federation it is completely scarce (unfortunately, the products of Boavision and Unitoptek are not imported to us), so let’s take a closer look at the assortment of the Millenium brand. It seems to us that the most interesting here is the 433 PTZ model, which is structurally very close to Unitoptek cameras from the NC947G line. It is interesting in that it can work with any data transfer channels – 3G / 4G, Wi-Fi and with a wired connection. Moreover, in case of urgent need, Millenium 433 can even serve as a temporary access point. The camera has a rotating mechanism, variable focal length optics, powerful illumination and is equipped with a sufficiently sensitive microphone. Note,

Main pluses:

  • 3 internet connection options;
  • itself can serve as an access point;
  • separate antennas for Wi-Fi and 3G / 4G;
  • varifocal lens;
  • very powerful backlight;
  • sensitive microphone.

  • high expenses for cellular communication.

EZVIZ Mini Trooper

Only self-powered wireless cameras can provide complete freedom from wires. Such a model will be the best solution for a rented apartment and will be useful for families with small children, insofar as it allows you to organize video surveillance very quickly and in the most seemingly unsuitable places. It seems to us that the system based on the Mini Trooper cameras has the greatest flexibility and versatility. Of course, it costs more than self-contained models, for example, the EZVIZ C3A, but the presence of a registrar base is more profitable from many points of view. First, the monitored area can be easily expanded by connecting additional cameras. Secondly, even when an intruder “steals” the camera itself, the filmed materials will remain in the recorder. Finally, the internal exchange in such a system takes place at specific Wi-Fi frequencies, which reduces the influence of “neighbors”

Main pluses:

  • simplicity and ease of deployment / dismantling;
  • acceptable stability of work over Wi-Fi;
  • several options for mounting the camera;
  • original design of the base.

  • no power button;
  • minimum settings;
  • short videos;
  • a rather rare type of batteries.

Hikvision DS-2CE16D8T-ITE

If the budget for a video surveillance system is small and there will not be serious requirements for analytics on site, it makes sense to pay attention to analog cameras. The second reason to give preference to them is the need for minimal signal transmission delays. Moreover, leading manufacturers have long been offering 5 and 8-megapixel models of such cameras, so everything is fine with the detailing of the picture. In this sense, the recommended device can boast of “only” a 2 MP sensor, but for most typical tasks the resolution of the latter is quite sufficient. Moreover, taking into account the variety of configurations for the DS-2CE16D8T-ITE (2.8, 3.6, 6.0 mm). This camera can receive power via coaxial, the photosensitivity is quite decent, it can do double scanning of the control zone. The backlight is not very powerful, but EXIR, i.e.

Main pluses:

  • good sensor sensitivity;
  • minimum signal delays;
  • there is a hardware WDR;
  • “Smart” backlight;
  • affordable price.

  • not vandal-proof;
  • complex analysis requires specialized software.

News N29LWX

The desire to get remote access to your video surveillance system is quite understandable. As well as the unwillingness to spend a significant amount on the implementation of this functionality. In principle, now almost every manufacturer or collector provides cloud storage and analytics services, but for some reason there is no particular trust in Chinese servers. At least to the longevity of such a service and its confidentiality. It seems to us that in this sense it is better to trust domestic manufacturers, and the Russian company Novicam with normal technical support is one of the options worthy of attention. Moreover, many of its CCTV cameras are based on the XM platform, i.e. They are compatible with any registrars via ONVIF, can be controlled both from the local network and through the XMEye application, and they are also inexpensive. In particular, The recommended model with a varifocal lens will cost your budget half the price of its famous rivals. But you won’t get serious analytics on XM either.

Main pluses:

  • good characteristics inexpensive;
  • branded cloud service;
  • adequate technical support.

  • specific disadvantages of the XM platform;
  • no PoE support.

Hikvision DS-2CE16H8T-ITF

Above, we have already mentioned the presence of devices among the analog models that are capable of filming the controlled area with increased clarity, and using the DS-2CE16H8T-ITF as an example, we want to draw the attention of buyers to the options for the format of the resulting picture. If advanced digital cameras have a special corridor mode of operation that allows you to programmatically change the aspect ratio (which is important to minimize traffic when shooting in “tight” places), then for their analog relatives it will be easiest to initially buy a 4: 3 standard device. Of course, it is possible to reduce the “dead” zones by using rotary dome models, but the expediency of purchasing more expensive video cameras for solving highly specialized tasks seems to us questionable. On the other hand, we also do not see much benefit from saving on resolution. Especially,

Main pluses:

  • good vertical viewing angle;
  • hardware WDR 130 dB;
  • adaptive backlighting;
  • support for all current analog standards;
  • affordable price.

  • the performance is not vandal-proof;
  • cannot receive power over a coaxial cable.

IR illumination

The greater the range of the illumination, the better – the wrong thesis: illumination of the observation area is required from the illumination – no more. Long-range illumination – a directional beam that illuminates a narrow sector, rather than the entire area. For a lens with a focal length of 2.8 mm, such illumination is not needed, because the object of observation is close.

Note – in the dark, the field of view will be twice as narrow. Equally, the quality of the picture will decrease, since the rays of the infrared range are perfectly reflected from rain, snow, dust suspension, midges and others.

A nuance of long-range IR illumination is the illumination of close objects. The problem is solved by adaptability: the processor receives data from the sensor about the distance to the object and proportionally changes the power of the diodes. When choosing an IP camera with a “long” backlight, make sure that the latter is adaptable – the datasheet will say Smart.

In summer, in hot regions, it makes sense to use IP cameras without IR illumination – with a free-standing floodlight. The built-in backlight diodes heat up, coupled with the high air temperature, this creates unnecessary unplanned noise.

The software motion detector that has become familiar is already analytics (in fact, it does not detect movement as such, but analyzes the image for changes), and it frees the operator from endless viewing of monitors, saves archive space, time to view recordings, and reduces the load on the network, therefore that, if configured appropriately, the IP camera starts recording only upon a detector signal.

Today, using the analytics built into the camera, they solve many problems. Among the analytical functions – detection of crossing a virtual line, abandoned or missing objects, movement with the classification of objects by size, speed and direction, entering and exiting an area, intrusion into an area, fog, people, cars, bicycles, counting visitors, sound detection, violations (excess / understatement) of the sound threshold, lens obstruction, changes in the field of view, picture substitution, sound classification, behavior analysis (falling, loitering, etc.) and a range of highly specialized functions.

Technologies are developing at an enviable speed, and in the future the list of analytical capabilities of IP cameras will expand, including towards neural network solutions.

Illumination and sensitivity

This is one of the most important factors when choosing a camera. Will the camcorder be operated with more or less stable illumination? Or do you need a camera that can work both in the dark and in bright sunlight? Will there be bright and dark areas in the frame at the same time?

If you want the camera to work around the clock, including in low light, pay attention to video cameras with a day / night function and IR illumination, such as the popular Hikvision DS-2CD2012-I model. Switching between day / night modes occurs automatically (when a certain illumination threshold is reached), so you will always see a high-quality picture (color during the day, black and white – at night).
If the light level varies widely, it makes sense to purchase a camera with an auto iris.

If there is contrasting illumination in the frame area with alternating light and shadow (for example, if the camera is installed in front of a window), it is recommended to choose a camera with WDR (wide dynamic range) to “equalize” the illumination, such as AXIS M1113-E.

How to choose an IP camera: a buying guide and top of the best network cameras. How to choose an IP camera?

H.264, H.265 codecs are responsible for compression. The H.265 standard is most effective at high resolution – at 2 megapixels it does not realize the advantages (there are not enough pixels for many 64 by 64 blocks). In most cases, H.264 is sufficient. Now it is fashionable to implement the whole set, including the so-called smart codecs, according to the principle the more the better, but this is superfluous – do not forget that all standards are paid: the more of them in the camera, the more expensive it is.

Smart codecs – H.264 +, H.265 + (Hikvision), ZipStream (Axis), WiseStream (Hanwha Techwin) as reference.

Choose an IP camera with codecs, taking into account the parameters of the DVR – it must support compression standards. What is the use of a set of H.264, H.265, H.264 +, H.265 + if the DVR only works with H.264?

What to look for when choosing

How to choose an IP camera: a buying guide and top of the best network cameras. How to choose an IP camera?Consider the main points to consider when choosing an outdoor CCTV camera.

  • Video resolution. It is determined by the type and size of the sensor, built mainly on a CMOS matrix with low power consumption in a static state. Accordingly, the higher the resolution, the better the quality.
  • Compress video. To stream video and store it inside the device, compression is necessary so as not to take up a lot of space. The signal processor is responsible for this, and the codec depends on its performance. At the moment, IP video cameras support three codecs: H.264, MPEG4, MJPEG. The last option is a frame-by-frame video compression method using the JPEG image compression algorithm, mainly used in budget units. The codec is insensitive to the camera’s processor resources, which is why it is widely used. The compression ratio of this codec is the smallest. Experts recommend using the modern H.264 codec.
  • FPS. An important parameter that determines the size of the file when transferred over the network and stored in the network storage. In modern cameras, this parameter is 10-30 frames per second. In practice, there is a limit of 10-15 frames, which is quite enough. This is done primarily in order to reduce the load on the network and optimize the occupied space on the server. Since a video file with a frequency of 30 frames per second will be 3 times heavier than the same file, but already with a speed of 10 FPS, of course, when using the same compression codec.
  • Viewing angle and focus distance. To get a general overview of the territory when video surveillance near a home or office, cameras with a wide-angle short-throw lens are ideal. When observing a certain object from a distance and clear face recognition plays a predominant role, you need a camera with a long focus lens and a viewing angle of no more than 45 degrees.

IR cut filter

IP camera arrays are sensitive to visible and infrared light. Infrared rays distort the color rendition, spoil the image – purple spots appear in the picture, covering parts of the frame. To prevent this from happening, use an IR filter – ICR (Infrared Cut filter mechanically Removable; mechanically movable infrared filter) or electronic. For night video surveillance, IP cameras work in day / night mode – if there is a lack of light, they switch to black and white shooting mode.

  • The mechanical IR cut filter is an IR-refracting sputter plate mounted in front of the sensor, equipped with a bias drive. In the dark, the filter is shifted to the side to increase the sensitivity of the sensor, the backlight can work. The filter receives a signal for displacement from a photosensor, which automatically controls not only the filter, but also the backlight.
  • Electronic IR-cut filter – spraying directly onto the matrix, which does not transmit IR rays in any shooting mode. Such cameras are converted to b / w – this gives a slight improvement in the picture, but the IR illumination is useless.

If you need round-the-clock video surveillance, take IP cameras with a mechanical IR filter, if only daytime, you can limit yourself to an electronic one. For the street, regardless of the time of day, only IP cameras with a mechanical IR filter are suitable – in winter it gets dark very early, and with an electronic filter, the image obtained even in the early evening will not be informative.

IP Camera: Formal and Legal Issues

In the end, it remains to clarify the question regarding the shape of the camera: if it should be a small and inconspicuous model, take the so-called dome-camera (in a dome-shaped casing). The boxy camera looks a bit bulky, but looking like a classic CCTV camera can be a bit of a deterrent for uninvited guests. And those who would like to conduct incognito surveillance should opt for “spy” cameras disguised as lights or fire alarms.

In any case, pay attention to the legal side of the issue. With the help of an IP camera, you can easily monitor your own land plot. You can also shoot such a public place, for example, as a sidewalk, but you cannot monitor a neighbor’s garden. In addition, all recordings are for private use only. Their publication without the consent of the people in the frame is not allowed.

General overview or picture details?

The answer to this question determines the focal length of our camera and its resolution. If you need a general overview (for example, monitoring the entrance or the room), then you need to purchase a camera with a wide-angle lens and VGA resolution. Such a video camera will give a general idea of what is happening – but you will not see the small details.

To distinguish a license plate, a person’s face or the denomination of a bill, a high-resolution video camera with a variable focal length lens is required. To determine the denomination of banknotes, the resolution (megapixel cameras) is more important, and a long-focus lens is needed to identify the number.

Outdoor IP Cameras

If you need an IP camera for outdoor use, pay attention not only to the operating temperatures – they are low for unheated rooms, but also to protection (choose according to the task):

  • From moisture and dust (without this, the IP camera is not outdoor): IP54 – dustproof device with protection against splashes, IP66 – dustproof equipment with protection against pressure jets, IP67 – short-term immersion in water to a depth of 1 m is permissible, IP68 – IP -the camera will operate immersed (≤ 1 m) for up to 30 minutes.
  • Corrosion protection: minimum stainless steel housing, maximum NEMA 4X (protection against corrosion, dust and splash from wind, water from a hose under pressure, damage due to icing).
  • Against mechanical stress – IK06 ~ IK10: IK06 – withstands a drop of 500 g from a height of 20 cm, IK07 – 500 g from 40 cm, IK08 – 1.7 kg from 29.5 cm, IK09 – 5 kg from 20 cm, IK10 – 5 kg from 40 cm.
  • Explosion protection – ATEX and IECEx; These IP cameras are designed for gas pipelines, oil refineries and chemical plants, etc.

In the characteristics of protection, with the exception of vandal resistance, there are no tricks. All standards have long been developed, described and are in effect: there is either protection or not.

When choosing an IP camera for the street, pay attention to the “Cold start” function – there is no sense even from IP68 and NEMA 4X, if after a short power outage the camera does not start, because it had time to cool down, and a cold start is not provided.

As for vandal protection, there is a catch on the cheap models: the dome can withstand a blow, but the filling crumbles and the camera does not work.
