Diseases of this organ are very insidious: they are often asymptomatic, but only at first glance. The reason for contacting an endocrinologist may be mood swings or excess weight, over which it is impossible to keep the victory.

The thyroid gland is actively involved in the synthesis of hormones that enter the bloodstream. This means that it can affect the functioning of all body systems. In women, problems with its functioning occur 10 times more often. And their development can be provoked by an unhealthy lifestyle or a genetic predisposition. What signs should alert you and make you think about the need to check the functioning of the thyroid gland?

You get tired quickly and suffer from absent-mindedness

Feelings of chronic fatigue, weakness and lack of energy are typical symptoms of insufficient production of thyroid hormones. If you get tired after just a couple of hours of intense work, or even get out of bed thinking you should have slept longer, then this signals a low concentration of hormones in the blood.

Bad mood has become your constant companion

Thyroid hormone deficiency is closely related to your life satisfaction and motivation. With insufficient production of thyroxine and triiodothyronine (this condition is called hypothyroidism), the production of serotonin is inhibited. It is the "happiness hormone" that affects libido and mood. Serotonin transmits impulses between nerve cells – "rejoice", "feel boundless happiness." If the command “be happy" is not received, then depression and unreasonable sadness are just around the corner.

You suffer from severe bouts of hunger and often overeat

Another hormone that is able to transmit signals to the body is ghrelin. It makes us feel hungry: ghrelin is produced by the cells of the mucous membrane of the stomach and pancreas. When you are full, ghrelin tells your brain that you are full.

Thyroid hormones "deceive" ghrelin, either suppressing or stimulating its formation. Your body does not understand what is happening to it – and begins to store energy just in case. Unspent glucose is converted into fat and sent to "storage" in the abdomen and thighs.

It throws you into the heat, then into the cold

This unpleasant condition is usually associated with a cold, stress, or menopause. But feeling hot and sweating, like chills, can be a real marker of thyroid health. With its dysfunction, it seems to us that we are about to freeze. With excessive activity of the thyroid gland, it increases the production of energy and heat – and we sweat intensely and ask to open the window.

Your heart rate is racing

Like the "stress hormone" cortisol, thyroxine and triiodothyronine can provoke heart rhythm disturbances. They negatively affect the work of the right atrium, causing it to contract too often. Tachycardia is another proof that the thyroid gland needs help.

Post source: salon.kr.ua

May 25 is World Thyroid Day.
