Or do you automatically make a few strokes with the brush and run further on business? Teeth are part of our beauty and health. Competent cleaning helps to keep them for a long time, and today, in addition to a variety of brushes, there are many devices for getting rid of bacterial plaque in the interdental space and even on the surface of implants.

Nadezhda Eremenko, a professional hygienist of the Dent-FM clinic, tells how and how to brush your teeth correctly.

Which brush to choose?

Manual or electric? Hard or soft? Long or wide? The choice depends on the condition of the teeth, bite, the presence of orthopedic, orthodontic constructions and implants.

For healthy teeth without erosion (admissible – with crowns) and without sensitive wedge-shaped defects, ordinary brushes of medium hardness are suitable. Better clean electric and sound and optionally monobeam.

Clean crowded teeth without defects with a brush with multi-level bristles and, in addition, a mono-beam brush, to thoroughly clean the spaces between closely spaced teeth.

If the teeth are sensitive, there are erosions and wedge-shaped defects (sensitive area, "protrusion" at the base of the tooth), then it is better to use soft toothbrushes (Curaprox, Pesitro). They have a lot of bristles (from 1560 to 12460), so, despite the softness, they clean well. The rounded bristles do not injure the enamel and do not cause pain. But brushing your teeth with soft brushes has certain rules, its own philosophy, and you can't do without consulting a dentist.

Use with braces

special orthodontic brushes with a recess for an orthodontic archwire, such as Curaprox, which has almost 5.5 thousand ultra-fine bristles. Such brushes carefully remove plaque from the entire surface of the teeth, including from under the braces.

sonic electric brushes (for example, Philips Sonicare) – using a sound wave and amplitude sweeping movements from the gum to the edge of the tooth, they make saliva with toothpaste circulate in the mouth, cleaning the most inaccessible places. The bristles make up to 40,000 strokes per minute and clean off much more plaque than conventional brushes.

mono-bundle toothbrushes – designed specifically for cleaning hard-to-reach places, including braces, one tuft will get deeper than a large brush head.

For implants, special brushes are produced with a certain bend and shape. Use them to clean implants under crowns, continue brushing the remaining teeth (healthy) with a manual brush of medium hardness, electric or sonic.

Brushes with hard bristles are mainly used for removable dentures or are used by those who are prone to plaque formation. How to use them correctly so as not to injure the oral mucosa, it is also better to consult a dentist.

And one more thing: the head of a manual toothbrush should not be big! This makes it difficult to brush your teeth. The use of brushes with rubber supposedly massage bristles does not improve its quality.

Is one toothbrush enough to clean your teeth?

Interdental spaces, where the most insidious caries occurs, will not be cleaned by a manual, electric, or sonic brush. To do this, you definitely need to use floss! They are also different, depending on the shape and condition of the teeth and oral cavity. Your dentist will help you choose.

An excellent additional hygiene tool that will help prevent tooth decay, gum disease and periodontitis is interdental brushes, or brushes. Brushing your teeth with them is a pure meditative pleasure! Better in the evening when you don't have to rush anywhere.

Mouthwashes add freshness to the breath, but are optional, use them as recommended by your dentist.

How to use a toothbrush correctly?

The basis of proper brushing of teeth is sweeping movements. We remove plaque from the tooth from the gum to the edge. In an electric and sonic brush, the head makes these movements automatically, we just have to move it from tooth to tooth. The most important thing is to clean the tooth on each side (buccal, lingual, palatal, chewing). Electric brushes must be equipped with a timer for 2 minutes, during which you need to thoroughly clean each tooth. If you can't make it, extend the time. In addition, these brushes have a built-in pressure sensor that will not injure the gums and tooth enamel.

With a manual toothbrush with medium bristles, we manually clean each tooth from the gum to the edge, inside and out. There should be 10 strokes on each side per segment that the bristles of the head cover. In this case, the brush should be placed at an angle of 45 degrees to the tooth.

But you need to brush your teeth with a soft brush in a different way, not according to the classics, and only a dentist can teach this.

And don't forget to use floss, brushes and mono-bundle brushes daily in addition to brushing your teeth twice a day!

How and how long to store brushes?

The toothbrush should brush off bacteria, not bring it in. For this:

Be sure to change your brush every three months!

Store in a glass, head up, to dry quickly. Not in a case and not in a closed container – this provokes the rapid growth of bacteria.

Store children's toothbrushes separately from adults (for example, in a children's room), especially if the bathroom is shared.

Turn brushing your teeth into a real wellness ritual and smile more often!

Post source: salon.kr.ua

Do you brush your teeth mindfully?
