And if you let everything take its course, then you can forget about the harvest altogether. The beetle will eat the foliage on potatoes, eggplants, and tomatoes. Even some flowers and weeds do not disdain.

Many enterprising people have become rich on various chemicals that poison the beetle.

But the nasty beetle appears again and again. But there are many popular ways to combat the “Colorado”, without the use of poisons and using the simplest means!

Let's list some of them:

Suitable for small areas only. It is necessary to carefully examine the plants, and move the found beetles into a container with a saline solution. There they will certainly die.

A very good effect is given by dusting potato bushes (tomatoes, eggplants) with sifted ash. Birch ash is considered the most destructive, but everything else shows good results.

It is recommended to do this in the morning, while the leaves are still wet with dew, or after rain.

Even with a single pollination at the rate of 10 kg of ash per 1 hundred square meters, in 1-2 days, as a rule, both larvae and adult beetles die.

Before flowering, pollination is carried out 1 time in 2 weeks, after flowering, 1 time per month. If you also sprinkle ash on the ground between the bushes, the effect will be maximum.

Dusting with corn flour

The method is based on the ability of corn particles to noticeably increase in volume when soaked.

Swelling in the stomach of the beetle, cornmeal causes its death.

Such dusting is done on leaves damp with dew.

Dusting with cement or plaster

Such recommendations are often encountered. Summer residents who practice this method claim that the larvae are guaranteed to die.

It is enough to sprinkle the potato leaves with powder or sow it between the bushes (the latter method will also get rid of the wireworm and the larvae of the Colorado potato beetle). The effectiveness of this remedy lasts for 4 days.

Mustard is good because it does not kill representatives of the Colorado potato beetle, but simply scares them away. This is due to the fact that it has a very unpleasant odor for these insects, which means that it acts as a so-called repellent. Not only the smell, but also the taste of the leaves, which have been processed with mustard prepared in a special way, frightens off both adults and their larvae. Spreading sawdust between rows

It has long been noticed: if you sprinkle the ground between potato bushes with fresh pine (or birch) sawdust, the beetle begins to bypass the plantation – it is sensitive to the smell of fresh wood. Before flowering, this should be done once every 2 weeks, and after that – once a month.

Mustard can be used both dry and as a spray solution.

There are several cooking options:

2-3 st. l. mustard powder, pour 1 liter of cold water and leave for two days. Then dilute the resulting mixture in a bucket of water and use for spraying;

you can speed up the process of preparing the solution by using boiling water, and the ratio of water and mustard is the same;

for a suspension, the amount of mustard powder should be doubled, the amount of water should be left the same. Regardless of the chosen preparation method, before direct use (the solution cannot be stored), it is necessary to strain the liquid. You can increase the effectiveness of the prepared product by adding 50 g of laundry soap or 100 ml of vinegar.

In addition, chickens can help in the fight against the Colorado potato beetle.

If you use these birds to eliminate harmful insects from potato bushes, then chicks of guinea fowls or faveroli at the age of 12 days should be fed with chopped potato tops, and then add chopped Colorado beetles.

After three months, such chickens can be safely released into the garden to hunt beetles. Before this, the birds, of course, cannot be fed. Thus, you can get rid of a large number of harmful insects.

Option 1: 1 kg of fresh leaves (leaves and green fruits can be) pour 10 liters of boiling water, leave under the lid for 5-7 days. Strain.

Option 2: pour 300 g of shells and dried leaves with 10 liters of boiling water, leave for up to 7 days. Strain.

Colorado beetles do not tolerate the smell of flowering hemp.

To scare away insects, take 200-250 g of flowering hemp, pour 3-3.5 liters of water and boil for 10 minutes. We cool the resulting broth and dissolve 15-20 g of laundry soap in it. After that, plants can be sprayed with this solution.

Insist 1 kg of dried and crushed bark in 10 liters of water for 3 days. Strain.

Pour half a bucket of leaves with water and boil for 15 minutes, bring the volume to 10 liters, leave for 3 days

Legumes planted in a row with potatoes also scare off the Colorado potato beetle.

From such a neighborhood, potatoes will be more productive, and beans will not be superfluous.

Dilute 100 g of tar in 10 liters of water. Spray 3 times a week.

Insist 0.5 kg of sunflower flowers in 10 liters of water for 3 days.

Option 1: Insist 1.5 kg in hot water for 3 hours. 1 liter of a 1.5% solution of calcium chloride is poured into the infusions.

Option 2: fill the bucket with freshly picked plants (or dry ones), add water, boil for 15 minutes. Use the resulting broth at a concentration of 1:20 (0.5 l of broth per 10 l of water)

Pour 100 g of chopped dried roots of elecampane with boiling water, leave for 1-2 hours. The first spraying with such an infusion is carried out when the tops reach at least 15 cm.It is recommended to spray 3 times per season

Pour 300 g of raw materials with 10 liters of hot (70-80 degrees) water (under load), insist for a day

Boil 200 g of dandelion herb and 200 g of horsetail in 10 liters of water for 15 minutes, the product is ready immediately after cooling. Apply at a concentration of 0.5 l of broth per 10 l of water

Mix 300 g of chopped grass with 1 cup of wood ash. Pour 10 liters of hot water, leave for 3 hours

100 g of dry pepper are boiled for 2 hours in 10 liters of water. Add 40 g of soap before spraying

Option 1: Insist 1 kg of crushed leaves and stepsons in 10 liters of warm water for 4-5 hours, add 40 g of soap (3 tablespoons of liquid soap can be used)

Option 2: Boil 3 kg of chopped green mass in 10 liters of water for 30 minutes. Apply at a concentration of 1: 5 with the addition of 40 g of soap for every 10 l of the finished solution

Option 1: Insist 0.5 kg of dry roots in 10 liters of water for 2 days. Dilute 1: 2, add 40 g of soap. Spray immediately after preparation.

Option 2: Insist 0.5 kg of stems or tobacco dust in 10 liters of water for 2 days. Dilute 1: 2, add 40 g soap

Boil 1 kg of chopped herbs in 10 liters of water, add 30 g of soap

Insist 200 g of crushed heads and arrows in 10 liters of water for a day. Add 40 g soap

100 grams of urea per 10 liters. water. This spraying has a double effect. And the pests die, and the plants receive foliar nitrogen fertilization.

For a bucket of water, 0.5 bottles of vinegar and 100 g of soda. Dilute and spray the potatoes immediately. Acts on adult beetles and larvae. The first spraying is most effective before the pest deposits eggs.

Using the poison of the Colorado potato beetles.

If you collect at least half a can of these insects, then you practically have poison. Place future victims in a container, fill with water and close the lid. As soon as the beetles have gone to the bottom – that's it, the poison is ready. Believe me, live Colorado beetles are terribly afraid of their own toxins.

Let your garden delight you with a wonderful harvest!
